Assignment Title: Farewell to Faye Event--Recipe Standardization
What I learned: In this assignment we were to use a list of foods available at the Chico farmer’s market and create a recipe. With that recipe we were then to standardize this recipe into a card in which the lay public would be able to use. I also learned how to modify the number of servings needed in any recipe by using the factor method.
Reflection to assignment: This assignment allowed for me to make a standard template which I can use for any recipe. By using many ingredients found at the local farmer's market I was able to discover many new ingredients in which I was unfamiliar with before this and use them in a recipe. The goal for this assignment was to get the public familiar with these 'unknown' ingredients as well.
Relevance to the profession: The skills taught through this assignment are organization of ingredients and preparation methods for any size production. Also, this assignment allowed for me to think about how the public follows recipe directions so that I could make a recipe in which they could easily understand. This is very important when standardizing recipes in kitchens. Being able to use unknown ingredients in a recipe also empowers the public.
